On 17th February 2022, Dr Harkunti Rahayu met with Alok Sharma, President of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, and His Excellency, Owen Jenkins, British Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. In the two hour visit to Jakarta, they discussed the challenges facing communities living in coastal areas. Dr Rahayu explained our Newton Prize winning research on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into urban agglomerations such as Jakarta and Denpasar. They also discussed our current work on localising tsunami early warning, which can help protect people in tsunami prone areas.
