Contributing to international cooperation on Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning & Mitigation System within the UN Decade for Ocean Science

Dr Rahayu and Professor Amaratunga contributed to the discussions on the strategic pathway for further international cooperation for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning & Mitigation System within the UN Decade for Ocean Science, in protecting communities from the world’s most dangerous waves. The core aim of the discussions were to develop a  framework for action on a “Tsunami Dedicated Decade” under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This was led and organised by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the Secretariat for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) and was an opportunity to promote localisation of tsunami early warning drawing upon the project work.
